Here I will give you 5 ideas of how you can use bars in your Notion dashboards. I will share links to Notion pages with examples so that you could copy them and adopt for your Notion set up.

Finance tracking

Incomes and expenses | Notion example

Coloured bars are great for visualising income or expenses amount for every week or month. We are going to use coloured blocks here. One block means some amount which suites best for your numbers and desired maximum bar length.

Let’s imagine we work with income in range 3–5K and expenses of 2–3K. The maximum number here is 5K. And I do not want my bars to exceed 15 blocks. Now I will divide 5K by15 and get 330 which is approximate amount which stands behind a single block. To use the formula for your situation just do the same calculation for your numbers and replace 330 in formula with your result.

Incomes from different sources | Notion example

Another idea for utilising bars for finance tracking is visualising relative income from different sources.

Habit tracker

You can use progress bars to visualise weekly progress with your routines.

Notion allows to calculate more thoughtful statistics for every particular habit.

If you are looking for a flexible habit tracker template in Notion with streaks, insights, trends and built-in best practices check out Holistic Habit Tracker. I have been using it for several years now and I can say that it is the best set up I had for habits tracking.

Sleeping time tracker | Notion example

There are plenty of apps to track your sleeping time. But if you prefer to track everything in Notion here is another idea of using bars.

Notion allows to visualise your bed time with some formula tricks. In this example every bar represents a bed time for a particular day. It is bounded to the range between 20:00 and 12:00. Red, blue and green blocks designates how long it takes to fall asleep.

Optionally you can mark the desired time range with 🔲 or any other block.

Project progress | Notion example

The most obvious use-case for a progress bar is to visualise a project progress. It may be calculated based on amounts of done and totals tasks. Or based on the tasks estimations or complexity measured in story points. Or by any other task “weights” parameter.

To create a progress bar you have to calculate a progress value based on the parameters chosen. And then use this value in a formula for building progress bar.

Project time tracking | Notion example

With progress bar you can add visualisation of time spent for the project. Such bars give you the feeling of how much time left according to your initial estimations.

In the example above planned and spent time is provided manually. But they could be rollups summing up estimations or time logs from corresponding databases.
